The surface area of both slices is calculated as:
(pi x r^2) x (the angle/360) where r is the radius. Because you’re finding the area of a fraction of the whole area.
For the first slice, the surface area is calculated by:
(pi x 6^2) x (60/360), which = 36pi x 1/6
equalling to 18.85 square inches
For the second slice,
(pi x 7^2) x (45/360) = 49pi x 1/8
= 19.24 square inches
But how do you know which slice has more value than the other?
Consider the first slice, which is 1/6 of the pizza, valued at $1.50, meaning the whole pizza would cost $9
The second slice being 1/8 of the whole pizza, valued at $1.70, the pizza costs $13.60
Going back to the first part, using pi x r^2,
for the first pizza, you’d be paying $9 for 113.1 sq. inches of pizza
but for the second, you’d be paying $13.60 for 153.9 sq.in. of pizza.
Using ratios between the two pizzas to compare total values:
$13.60/$9 = 1.51
153.9/113.1 = 1.36
The ratios show that for every dollar you pay for the 6 inch pizza, you’re paying $1.51 for the 7 inch pizza.
However for every sq. inch of the 6 inch pizza you’re paying for, you’re getting 1.36 sq ins. equivalent in the 7 inch pizza.
1.51 > 1.36 (obviously) showing you’re paying for more than you’re gaining in the second pizza.
In conclusion, the first pizza, the 6 inch and 6 slices, is the one that you get more value for money for.
so this commercial is being taken down and off of tv after Cheerios got complaints from people about how this commercial is promoting bi-racial families. as a child coming from a bi-racial family i’m actually astonished and disgusted. it’s 20 fucking 13 people, get a grip.
